ACC Live: Building deeper connections between you and the industry

At ACC, we’re always looking to give our students industry experiences from extra activities which help prepare them for a career. One of the ways we do this is as part of an annual Enrichment & Workskills Programme called ACC Live.

ACC Live runs throughout each academic year and comes with a full calendar of events, workshops and exhibitions that connect learners to the industry in a real and unique way. Recently, we ran the first two segments of the programme; Industry Takeover and Next Steps Training Fair. Here’s what was involved and how they went!

Industry Takeover focused on skills, bringing professionals from the creative and digital industries together to create films for students that explore the skills needed to work in the industry. Hosted online in November, the online on-demand event featured over 70 filmed talks and presentations covering games, software development, graphic design, filmmaking and photography, music production/performance, esports and events.

The videos allowed our students to gain insights into their skills development. They were each given a video to watch on skills relating to their main course; a video on a wider skill, such as creativity or problem solving, and a video on a new skill to help them become more employable.

Next up was our Next Steps Training Fair, aimed at preparing learners for next steps which is a crucial part of any educational journey. The fair focused on informing students about their post-course choices, from university through to apprenticeships.

Taking place across 6 campuses on 30th November, the fair linked universities and other educators with ACC students, allowing them to explore their options. Attendees included dBs, BIMM, ACM, BCU, Point Blank and LIPA, as well as universities in London, Bristol, Plymouth, Birmingham, Norwich, Manchester and Leeds.

The events were a great success, buzzing with energy and excitement, providing employers with a look at their future staff and providing students with what may be their first real experience of speaking to companies and organisations that they may end up working or studying with! The events were backed up by a Next Steps Training Fair website which lets our students explore more of their options and build a better understanding of what could be possible in their own time.

And that’s just the start of what is to come from ACC Live. If you’re interested in finding out more about the programme, you can check that out here. Remember, we’re offering you all this and more, and currently taking applications for September 2022! Take a look at what we have to offer here
