Sam Bowden: My life in music

You might recognise Sam Bowden from our previous news stories. For those of you that don’t, he is the lead guitarist of punk-pop band Neck Deep and ex -student at Lincoln. We managed to catch up with him just before he headlined the Monster Stage at Slam Dunk Leeds.

We wanted to know the soundtrack of his life.

What’s the first song you remember hearing?

My memory isn’t that good, so I don’t remember the first one I ever heard. The first song that inspired me to do something would probably be something from Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Oasis.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Probably the Oasis record. Oh man, I can’t remember what it was called!

What riff made you want to pick up a guitar?

There was a bunch but I’d have to say Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Californication.

What’s the song that makes you want to dance?

Recently, Bruno Mars, 24k magic in the air.

We know you’re a guitarist, but what song do you sing on karaoke?

Robbie Williams, Angels. 100%. Failing that, R Kelly, Ignition because you can move to that.

First song you fell in love with?

From a music point of view, Green Day, Basket Case. It just hit me in a way and made me just want to do what they were doing.

Which song can’t you get out of your head?

That is time sensitive. Nothing is stuck in my head at the minute which is perfect.

What was the first gig you ever went too?

I didn’t get the chance to see too much but I did get to see Arctic Monkeys.

Keep an eye on what Sam and Neck Deep are up to on facebook, @neckdeep.
