Our Level 2 Music Performance and Technology course immerses you in the world of songwriting, producing, and recording, allowing you to learn essential skills to create your sound. From composing to collaborating on live performances or productions, you’ll get hands-on with the tools and techniques that shape today’s music. Learn how the industry works, uncover what inspires your favorite artists, and even organise your own music event.
On this course, you’ll collaborate with peers who bring unique skills and ambitions, encouraging creativity and mutual inspiration. Together, you’ll form performance groups or composition teams, sharing ideas and pushing boundaries. The course offers a broad spectrum of musical disciplines while allowing you to focus on the genres and styles that resonate with you. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to confidently choose the Level 3 pathway that best aligns with your skills, interests, or pursue your career aspirations.

You can head off to University, study a Level 4/5 course or go straight into the world of work.
A Film Composer writes the score for a film, demoing for the film’s creative team, fitting music into scenes and leading recording sessions.
Sound Designers are responsible for obtaining sound effects for a specific production. They set up the sound playback equipment, record and edit the required sounds.
DJs perform at clubs, festivals and on the radio, playing music across a wide range of genres that may or may not be theirs.
Producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production. They select the script, source funding, coordinate writing, approve locations, hire staff, work with the director, and help edit/arrange the film.
Mixing engineers are responsible for combining the sonic elements of recorded music into a finished version, balancing each aspect of the piece to achieve the desired end result.
Runners are assistants on film sets who complete a wide range of tasks including copying call sheets, moving equipment, driving vehicles for the production, stop traffic for scenes and more.
Foley artists create everyday sounds for film and tv productions, intended to fill in the background of scenes and enhance the auditory experience for the viewer. Typical sounds created can include footsteps, doors opening and breaking glass.

This internally assessed course is delivered and evaluated by teachers through planned projects. These combine practical tasks, like compositions, audio recordings, and videoed performances, as well as written reports, and presentations, involving both individual and group work. The year is currently made up of 7 projects/assignments.
Our bespoke professional development programme aims to empower you to take your next steps into your future career. We achieve this by providing you with a three phase programme of lessons, projects and experiences designed to give you as much exposure to industry as possible.
If you are 16-18 and don’t already have GCSE Grades 4 or above in mathematics and/or English Literature or Language, it will be compulsory for you to do a GCSE level maths and/or English course alongside your studies with us. Learn more here.
