4 GCSEs at 4-9 (C-A*) including English.

You will benefit from a balanced programme of study that combines practical sessions in specialist spaces, contextual studies in classrooms, independent study which you can undertake in college or at home, and enrichment activities which enhance your college experience – things such as trips, visits, guest speakers and events. In most courses, you will share some lessons with peers from different pathways, allowing you to rub shoulders and collaborate!

Throughout both years of the course, weekly in-person lessons cover a range of topics in music and vocal artistry. In addition, in Year 1:

  • Our bespoke Vocal Artist online course delivers additional skills and knowledge to develop you as a vocalist and performer, and can be completed at a time and place in the week that works best for you
  • Enrichment activities throughout the year enhance your college experience and develop your skills and knowledge
  • Our professional development programme develops key employability skills and puts them into practice through short, independent projects
  • Weekly maths and/or English lessons support you to improve if you have a Grade 3 or below in either subject

And in Year 2:

  • You will plan and undertake independent study hours to complete project work, developing organisation, self-motivation and independence and preparing you for the world of employment or Higher Education
  • Continued enrichment activities enhance your experience and provide more opportunities to engage with industry and employers
  • Continued focus on professional development lessons support you as you look to the future

Across each year, you will receive at least three one-to-one reviews, and a formal learner report will be accessible to your parents/carer via the portal.

This course is internally assessed, meaning your teachers deliver and grade all of your coursework. Each year is made up of carefully scheduled projects, which can involve both individual and group work and are a balance of practical work, like performances, lyrics writing, compositions, and music videos, alongside written/visual reports and presentations.

We work with you to build your skills; however, we have some recommendations for you prior to commencing your journey on the course:

  • Build your instrumental/vocal ability – practice, practice, practice!
  • Work with other musicians outside of your comfort zone – it’s fine to have a niche, but the more flexible you are, the better
  • Listen to lots of music, question what it is that you like about it, and pick out the key elements that really appeal to you
  • Take advantage of online resources that will help you develop your knowledge of working with and composing on a DAW – musicians do a lot for themselves these days, and that includes the technical stuff!
  • Try to consider where you would like to end up in the music industry – performing, composing, teaching, whatever the case may be, start investigating!

Your course benefits from an enrichment programme of external performances and opportunities. There will be a performance series throughout the year, giving you plenty of choice when it comes to getting on stage. We also have excellent links with festivals around the country.

We also provide opportunities for guest speakers and external projects to widen your industry knowledge and experience.

Our bespoke professional development programme aims to empower you to take your next steps into your future career. We achieve this by providing you with a three phase programme of lessons, projects and experiences designed to give you as much exposure to industry as possible.

If you are 16-18 and don’t already have GCSE Grades 4 or above in mathematics and/or English Literature or Language, it will be compulsory for you to do a GCSE level maths and/or English course alongside your studies with us. Learn more here.
