Our Level 2 Games Development course is the perfect introduction to the gaming world, covering both games art and development. You’ll learn how to create simple games, design characters, develop animations, and use industry-standard tools. 

The course also explores the games industry, career paths, and marketing strategies. You’ll build your technical and academic skills while gaining employability experience by organising a game-related event. This course is designed to prepare you for Level 3 study and help you take your first steps towards a career in games development.

  • Game Art & Animation: Gain skills in designing characters, environments, and animating elements for an engaging gaming experience.

On our L2 Games Development course, you’ll learn about the fundamentals of game creation, including both the artistic and technical aspects of development. You’ll work with industry-standard software and tools, gaining hands-on experience to create simple games and animations. The course incorporates practical sessions and classroom studies, providing you with transferable skills that can take you into various sectors like media, art, and IT. You’ll also have the chance to study for an Amazon Web Service certification, giving you valuable qualifications for the industry.

  • We are a creative college, creating a specialist, creative ecosystem. This is enhanced by teachers, support staff and managers with creative backgrounds and experience.
  • We have developed in house careers and online learning programmes to support, enhance and harness students’ creative skills and abilities.
  • We cover a range of disciplines and outputs whilst still allowing students to determine and develop their own creative outputs.

Weekly Schedule:

  • 13 hours of in-person lessons per week, covering a range of topics in games development.
  • 24 hours of enrichment activities throughout the year, offering hands-on experiences outside the classroom.
  • Additional hours dedicated to developing employability skills through the Professional Development programme.
  • For students needing to retake maths and/or English (grade 3 or below), 4 hours of maths and/or 3 hours of English per week are included.
  •  

Professional Development: 

  • Weekly sessions to develop employability skills specific to your chosen discipline.

Attendance and Independent Work:

  • 100% attendance is mandatory for all lessons and timetabled activities.

Students are expected to work independently outside timetabled lessons to:

  • Apply what they learn.
  • Complete assignments.

Progress Reviews and Reporting:

  • At least three one-to-one reviews per year.
  • A formal learner report accessible to parents/carers via the online portal.

Enrichment Opportunities:

  • Creative projects, guest lectures, and events.
  • An online learning programme to support studies outside college hours.

This course is internally assessed meaning your teachers deliver and assess all of your coursework. Games Development Level 2 is currently made up of 6 assignment submissions, which make up larger projects. Projects are a balance of practical work like game builds, screen-captured playthroughs, Game Design Documents (GDDs), animations and art work, as well as written reports and presentations.

Our bespoke professional development programme aims to empower you to take your next steps into your future career. We achieve this by providing you with a three phase programme of lessons, projects and experiences designed to give you as much exposure to industry as possible.

Those who need to retake maths and/or English due to achieving a grade 3 or below will undertake 4 hours of maths and/or 3 hours of English a week. Learn more here.
