On the Level 2 Videography, Photography and Design course, the focus is on expanding and developing your media skills. You will be given a solid foundation in a range of media disciplines, and choose the areas in which you wish to improve, allowing you to advance further in your studies and make an informed decision about your next steps on your journey in the world of creative media.

During this stage of your studies, you are provided with the tools, guidance, and resources to develop and enhance your existing skills and interests in media and design, photography, videography and animation. You’ll also undertake a variety of activities and projects that challenge you to apply your media knowledge and skills in practical projects. 

One of the main focuses of the Level 2 course is to develop both your technical and academic skills so you can progress onto Level 3 study if you wish, and become more employment-ready. You’ll learn about the media industry and what is needed to succeed, and complete a personal progression project. You’ll work on your personal health and well-being to prepare for the next steps in life and education.

The course allows you a safe space to experiment with techniques and approaches to improve, without fear of failure. By actively participating in hands-on tasks and projects, you will refine your practical skills, including photography, video editing, graphic design and animation, and learn to effectively utilise industry-standard software and tools, gaining skills in applications like Adobe Creative Suite. You will learn to respond to creative briefs, becoming confident in creating work in a range of creative media disciplines and leave the course feeling confident in your creativity, your skills and your next steps.

PLEASE NOTE: THE BELOW STUDY MATERIALS ARE CAMPUS DEPENDENT.

Prior to your studies commencing, you will be advised how and where to purchase essential media production materials such as memory sticks, SD cards and high-quality headphones. 

In college you will find:

  • Google Suite 
  • Digital drawing tablets 
  • Audio recording equipment
  • Lighting
  • Digital cameras and tripods
  • Specialist lenses
  • Green screen spaces

 

You will also benefit from an Adobe Creative Cloud licence. Each licence enables students to register two devices. 

A Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) allowing you to:

  • View course information
  • Access resources for your lessons, to help you understand and complete projects and assignments
  • View your timetable and check your attendance

  • Diverse Media Topics: You will be introduced to a range of media topics, including photography, video production and graphic design, offering a well-rounded understanding of different areas within the media industry.

Familiarise you with similar assessment methods and working practices to ensure a smooth transition to Level 3.- We are an exclusively creative college, where 100% of our courses are in the creative sectors, creating a specialist, creative ecosystem. This is enhanced by teachers, support staff and managers with creative backgrounds and experience.

    • There are opportunities for collaboration across creative disciplines, for example, working with media students to develop branding

    • We cover a wide range of disciplines and outputs within videography, photography and design, whilst still allowing learners to determine and develop their own creative outputs

    • A range of student-friendly offers are available in partnership with WEX. These vary by store, so check in with your local branch to see what support they can provide you as an Access Creative College learner

    • Students on this course are assigned an Adobe Creative Cloud licence with access to all applications except Substance. Each licence enables students to register two devices.

You will benefit from a balanced programme of study that combines practical sessions in specialist spaces with contextual studies in classrooms. On most courses, you will share some lessons with peers from different pathways, allowing you to rub shoulders and collaborate! 

  • Your academic year will run for 37 weeks. A typical week is mainly made up of in-person lessons covering a variety of topics in your chosen discipline.
  • You will spend time each week developing your employability skills through our professional development programme and your personal health and wellbeing in personal development lessons. 
  • There is also an expectation that you spend some time outside of your timetabled lessons on applying what you learn to complete your project work. 
  • Weekly maths and/or English lessons support you to improve if you have a Grade 3 or below in either subject.
  • Enrichment activities throughout the year give you access to activities such as creative projects, guest lectures and events, enhancing your college experience and developing your skills and knowledge.
  • Throughout the year, you will receive at least three one-to-one reviews, and a formal learner report will be accessible to your parents/carers via the portal.

This course is internally assessed, meaning your teachers deliver and assess all of your coursework. Videography, Photography and Design Level 2 is currently made up of 8 assignment submissions. Projects are a balance of practical work like photography, video production, graphic design and animation; as well as reports and presentations.

While specific requirements are not necessary, you could benefit from:

  • Basic Computer Skills: Familiarise yourself with operating systems such as Windows or macOS. Understand file management, navigating folders, and using common software applications.
  • Software Proficiency: You will be using software such as Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign). You will get free access to the Adobe Suite, so don’t invest in it unless you want to, but you can explore their basic features, tools, and capabilities by watching YouTube tutorials or accessing free web-based equivalents such as Photopea or Adobe Express.
  • Technical Skills: Enhance your drawing skills, as drawing forms the basis of many design concepts. Build on your photography and videography skills by taking pictures with your mobile phone.
  • Research and Inspiration: Begin exploring design trends and styles. Look for inspiration in various sources such as books, magazines, websites, and social media platforms to broaden your media perspective.

Your course benefits from an enrichment programme planned out by your local campus. Activities we’ve done in the past are:
